Kat Horn

I have loved art my whole life. As small kid I drew pictures of everything, all the time, often on things the big people didn’t want me drawing on. This eventually led to some more formalized art instruction which kept on fueling the fire. I found a passion for charcoal drawing that continues to this day. After years of watching people paint and thinking it was beyond me, I finally signed myself up for a class. I felt that until that time, I had been walking through life with tinted glasses on. It seemed suddenly everything was exploding in color I had never noticed before. The world was looking pretty nice.

I’ve since studied art both formally and informally, with John Singer Sargent and Janet Fish being the two painters I reference the most for a boost. I paint in oil and acrylic, and still draw only in charcoal. I enjoy the rhythm of art. I create things for the love of the process and the surge of breathless excitement that comes with looking a piece and knowing it has reached its final destination. My recent tendency has been painting moments that have captivated me in some way. Being a person who thrives on various forms of outdoor adventure, these moments are often in wild, open space. I paint for myself, but I present my work so that I may have the opportunity to pass on to someone else an image that makes them pause in their reaction.

I currently reside in San Francisco, although I am from Massachusetts originally. My art activity is based out of Big Umbrella Studios, at 906 ½ Divisadero St in San Francisco. Most days of the month my art is hanging somewhere on the walls of the gallery along with other local art. Many of the works on this website have been sold, but some are still available for sale. I post new pieces as I finish them. Check back for the most current pieces or visit my personal site at http://kathornart.com. I can be contacted directly at kat_horn@hotmail.com with any questions.
