Beja Tinsley

Beja is excited to be a member of Big Umbrella. She has delicious plans for workshops, shows, and much, much more... She has been showing in SF for the past few years, mostly in various cafes, and is grateful to have BUS as a home base. When not making art, she spends her time dancing ecstatically, hula hooping, working in the community mental heath field, and worshiping the intrinsic beauty around her..
Her work (mainly of the figurative/assemblage variety) is inspired by the many years she spent working professionally as a muralist, scenic painter, and copyist (in the Louvre). She enjoys working with oil and acrylic paints, collage, clay, mixed media, found objects, and photography, and she is fascinated by light and shadow, deconstructionism, and the color gold. She reveres the natural world and often integrates items scavenged from her time outdoors into her artwork. She hopes that by putting natural objects back in the realm of artistic and spiritual reverence, we can slowly shift away from the current ways in which we un-sustainably consume the earth.
