Big Umbrella Studios, also known as BUS among patrons, friends and fans, is a burgeoning art gallery, and member-driven studio work space located in the heart of the exciting Divisadero St. corridor in San Francisco’s Western Addition neighborhood. With monthly gallery openings, a range of workshops and classes, an exciting calendar of events, open membership, and retail store featuring local and indie prints, books, magazines and more Big Umbrella Studios welcomes you.

Submissions Policy: If you are interested in submitting work to Big Umbrella Studios, please contact Rick Kitagawa at submissions@bigumbrellastudios.com. Please email him a link to your work (attachments will not be reviewed), and your artist statement in the text of your email. Please be sure to put “Art Submission” in the subject line.
Please note that due to the volume of submissions and our focus on member-created art, we cannot reply personally to all submissions. Please note that we do not put on solo shows, and we only curate non-member artists in based on the theme of the show. Regardless of how much we like your art, if we don’t think it fits in any of the upcoming shows, we will not hang your work. Regardless of how much your art fits in the category, if we don’t feel it’s a right fit for our gallery and clientele, we will not hang your work.
If we are interested in showing your art, we will contact you, so please do not email us asking if we have had time to review your submission. We will review everyone’s work, and we will hold onto your submission for all future shows. Please do not resubmit unless you have produced at least 3-4 pieces of new work.
